Late model computer crap in an old ride?

Post by Reb Stew on March 7th 2015, 1:22 am

I am thinking of putting that little 51 Dodge pickup on an S10 frame with the 4.3 and hook all the computer stuff up. I'm an ol' school kind of guy and I'm not scared to tell you it freaks me out thinking about it. Anyone ever do anything like that? Just wondering if it's really worth it.

I always wanted to do a 5.3 ls engine swap in something. Seems like to me a person needed to have the computer flashed to get rid of the security problems. Only thing that seems tough to me if you're doing a whole frame/chassis swap is the speedo and gauges. Not sure if there is something aftermarket.

Not sure about the speedo and stuff. I want to leave the factory stuff in the dash.

I sold a truck once and delivered it to his buddy's hous about an hour away. His buddy had a 69 chevy stepside truck that had an early 200's shortbed 4x4 chevy frame and running gear under the 69 body. Even had the late model dash inside. It was at the somerset car show one month this past year.

Swap a carb & intake on the 4.3, standard dizzy, and go with a
700R4, that would eliminate most of electronic junk.

Redline gauges can change your stock gauges to electronic, but it's spendy.

This is going to be a super fast, budget slap together. Marty I thought about swapping over to a carb but those intakes are hard to find on the cheap. I don't guess anyone has one laying around do they? It would sure make things easier.

Ok, wasn't sure what you had planned. Yea, they are pricey, they were even when 4.3's first came out and they were plentiful.

I would think if you had the ECM and all the proper sensor wires, it would work even though the gauges would not be hooked up, but never down anything like that so can't help ya.
