Had a little setback.

Post by Chris55 on October 17th 2013, 4:54 pm

On 10/6 I was making dinner for the family and decided to cut of a hunk of chicken fried steak while cooking. Well I guess I didn't chew it well enough and ended up chocking my self out. When I came to, the Sherriff and EMTs where there. I had aspirated my lungs and filled them with blood and water. Needless to say, we ended up in the ER. To check the condition of my lungs, they ran a CT scan and found a 6.2cm aneurysm on my aortic tube, upon further testing they found I also had a bad aortic valve. So the long and short is here I sit in the hospital waiting to go home after open heart surgery. No lifting for up to 12 weeks and no driving for about 6 weeks. looks like it may be a while before I get back to the 55.

man, that kind of sucks, but in hindsight, it was probably good thing you choked and they found it. Very few people live when an aortic anuerism burts.
Rest and get well. Don't push it either. My dad did that with his first heart surgery, 10 days out decided to carry firewood into the house and busted out the staples hlding his sternum together....stubborn old coot!
My father also had a double anuerism 20 yrs after his first surgery on his main aotirc stem coming out of his heart, doctor said it as first time he had seen that in his 30 yrs of heart surgery.

Sounds like you were lucky this happened. That being laid open isn't any fun, been through it a couple of times. If I remember right, a gallon of milk is about all you can lift for some time. It was the no driving that got to me. The first time I drove after my first surgury it was like a teenager driving to the grocery for a loaf of bread. Driving w/o power steering hurt for quite a while. Do what the Dr says!
