Scrounger got hit

Post by Reb Stew on September 14th 2013, 4:55 am

Benjamin, our Ky Chapter President got hit today while he was on his Harley. Some kid didn't see him and hit him T bone style. He had all his gear on so I'm sure that helped him out. No broken bones. The bike may be a total but the main thing is that Benjamin is at home sore but safe. Keep him in your prayers. I'm sure he will be hurting worse in the morning.

Benjamin had a higher source watching over him yesterday. In Boone County, they're starting to post signs on the State Routes about sharing the roads with motorcyclists.

I'm glad he will be alright and will be praying for him that he will be up and about real soon.

God IS his pilot....good thing too...glad he wasn't hurt....That's why I sold Road King last year....it's not that I didn't like it, but after I got rear ended, it opened my eyes just how STUPID people drive...I have ridden on the street 36 years......and it's just not worth it....like Hank said, the Hangovers hurt more than they used to...as everything does....lol

Benjamin said he's okay but still sore. His neck and shoulder are feeling better, His hip and lower back is what is hurting the most right now.

As John said above. I'm not sure it's worth it anymore. I love to ride. When I got hurt, not from a bike it put me off a bike for 10 years due to my back injury. I missed it so much. Years later I walked into a bike shop just to look, I bought that Drifter and got back into the wind. The first week I found out no one driving a car cares about anyone on a bike. Within the first month I had more close calls than I ever had riding years before. I'm not sure if it is lack of skills, education or over population.

With my back I started riding less and less and then sold the Drifter. I now have that bug again. It stinks to have a passion for riding and not being able to do it but I just wonder if it's even a wise choice. Benjamin is pretty fit. If I was hit like he was I might be okay then again it may finish me of and be wheelchair bound. You just never know. I just know I miss the freedom of riding.

I'm just glad that it wasn't any worse than it was and Benjamin will be okay. It's a shame his Harley got hit. Hopefully the kid has insurance.

Mine and carolyns bikes have been parked for couple of years now. Don't think we will be riding anytime soon. We've discussed selling them.

I have been hit once and almost hit a bunch more times,I am also thinking about selling the Harley and stick to 4 wheels but its my back that has a hard time being on two wheels more then the idiots that we share the road with. I about got nailed thursday coming home from work so the idiots might be more of a concern now.

Re: Scrounger got hit

Post by Cratethis on September 22nd 2013, 4:46 am

I'm doing good. Thanks for all the well wishes. Life has been crazy at work so there hasn't been much extra time for anything. Insurance adjuster looked at the bike on Friday. Hope to hear something soon and get the property damage settled soon.

I've taken worse falls when I rode dirt bikes. That black top sure isn't as forgiving as dirt. You think the dirt is hard but it doesn't compare.

I hear what everyone is saying and I don't disagree. Maybe I'm still too young and dumb but we are already looking for the next bike. Just not ready to give them up yet.

What I find more crazy is what I see other riders wearing when they ride. Maybe the better way to put it is what the aren't wearing. The week before I got hit I saw a guy riding on 18. All he had on was flip flops and cut off shorts. I hear guys all the time bragging about never wearing a helmet. More power to them. I don't wear a helmet because of my lack of ability (like so many of them imply) I wear it because of everyone else. My gear kept it to bumps and bruses and not road rash and a concussion.

I totally agree with you. Safety gear is just that. I saw a guy riding barefooted last week. That's just asking for trouble. People act like they are invincible. Not me. call me a sissy but I'd rather be safe than in a wheel chair any day.
