Best way to buy a car out of state

Post by junkyard junky on January 13th 2013, 3:38 am

I'm looking at buying an old truck in Nebraska and really don't want to go get it mnyself due to the weather and what it can do this time of year. Checked on having someone haul it home and found a business. I'm kind of leary of sending the guy money since I'm not going to be picking it up myself. I always just hand the money over once I arrive with a truck and trailer. The seller has always been straight forward with me and seems to be alright. Always answered the phone when I call. I was thinking about sending a personal check. The shipping will be coming from Denver and could pick this truck up as a back haul back to his place in Ohio. Anyone have any experiences or suggestions?

People do it all the time but i'm like you. I'm not too trusting to people I do not know.

There are companies you pay like 150 bucks, they go check it out, drive it 10 miles, crawl all over it, dude sent one here to look at my 1971 Mach 1 before he bought it.....

Interesting about that company. That mustang is toast. ouch. The truck I'm looking at is all original and doesn't run (project). Still has the original paint. The price for the truck isn't very much. I worry about having problems when the hauler gets there to load it up.

Called the seller Sunday night and told him to send me his address so I could send the money. Haven't heard anything back. I guess he's going to flake. Going to call him tomorrow.

It's all a crap shoot sometimes. I got my 66' wagon and it was listed as everything worked. NOT. It had sat a long time apparently, but just needed a lot of connections cleaned. A few more dents than expected, but all and all a solid car. Will need a paint job to make the little lady happy, but that's it. Guess I was a lucky one!

Bought the truck. Have a guy who hauls cars has picked it up. Gave me a call yesterday (Sat) around 11:30 am and said he was leaving Denver and would pick the truck up that I bought. Got a call at 7:15 last nigh, he was on his way to ky. He said he would be here in the afternoon. Thats a lot of miles. He says he tries to drive 1,000 a day when he's out on the road.

Hope it's what you want when you get it. Scary to buy sight unseen.

The guy sent me some pictures. It looked pretty solid.

The truck was just delievered about an hour ago.I'm pleased with it and it was just what the seller described. I put an ad on the hamb looking to find someone to haul it home since I didn't feel like going to go get it. Got a message from Bill's Auto Works out of northern Ohio. Excellent guy. Very professional and responsible. If you need anything hauled, call this guy.
