T Modified on the cheap!

Post by LRS30 on February 22nd 2008, 3:44 pm

Ok if I'm gonna do this I'm gonna keep track of it here to see what I have
so far and to keep a list of what I have and need...

1, kit car body
2 SBC (yhea I know boring/untraditional) if somebody has something better, for what I paid for this one let me know..Oh yhea I paid nothing for it.
3.

T shell and hood top's and sides

4.[
mine is plain steel(was a helluva deal,(wow and a poet too!)

5. Frame. Here is the frame I just bought. Needs a bit more kick-up in the rear I think, time will tell(going to pick-up on Sat Feb 23)

6.I have 2-16" wire's need 2 more either 16's or 18's

7. One Banjo rear, this may change if I cannot find the brake pieces on the cheap..plan on converting it to an open drive, juice brake set-up.

8. And a full set (not pictured oil pressure water temp fuel pressure)of Auto Meter Ultra light gauges (yhea yhea not traditional). Left over from my 66 Chevy II project 12 years ago, hey another 13 and the will be collector's items.

I may or may not use these I have a extra 54 Chev Gauge cluster

No this is not my car( I wish! Maybe if I spent some money on here she would look like this)

what ever is cheap! There is'nt a lot of room in this body for 3 pedals, I would love to run a 4 or 5 speed if i can find one, but a Turbo 350 is probably what I will end up running if I can get ahold of one...

Uh cleaning out the garage(well that was the idea I pitched to the wife any way)..

Today NANOOK and I are going to brave the icey tundra of Kokomo Indiana, whe have a month's supply of whale blubber and our muck-luck's to survive . We are on a search for the great wooley T-rex-Frame, I have secured a grant from the United Bank of Lisa to carry out this mission. So with blubber in hand and NANOOK my trusty side companion riding shotgun, we hope to return with our treasure of this expedition, Wish us luck! Our lives depend on it..Thank you that is all...Ryan

I did get a complete chrome front end spindles and drag link (minus Spring) for the whopping price of $67 buck's. On a scale of 1 to 10 its a solid 8 1/2 chrome wise, good enough for one of my car's... I just got it moved to my house so I will start fixing the frame and mock up this week....Thank's for keeping tab's on me Stan....

Hell I'm the "laziest man in Los Angeles County"(The Big Lebowski qoute). Just trying to stay afloat, I did however get out and start doing some cutting on the frame last night. I keep stopping by the hot rod shop in hopes to order some front end parts but he seems to never be open, thats a hell of a way to run a railroad I guess....My plans have been altered a bit since I got this pretty front end now, I'm having to spend a little more than I first thought cause of all the chrome pieces(now I remember why i hate chrome so much).. But It will look good when its all together, that is if you like chrome..

Re: T Modified on the cheap!

Post by LRS30 on March 30th 2008, 12:48 am

Well in a mad dash to get something done today before baseball practice I got the front perch cut off(was welded on crooked and look's like they used a coathanger), and got the rear part of the frame cut out and replaced it with a Model A crossmember I had laying in the junk pile. I keep telling the wife I bring this junk home for a reason, now I have found out what the reason is.....I ordered some much needed front-end pieces, opted for stainless instead of chrome(less maint.) and a rear model A spring perch kit for my new rear-end I drug home last Fri-day.So if everything goes well I'll have the front and rear mocked up by mid week, then I will be able to see if I need to shorten the frame.I think its going to be about 3 to 4 " to long for my taste.. Also if anybody has an extra 600 bucks laying around I have my eye on a real nice Wilwood Brake Set-up I could use....So thats what I got done this morning....

Removed plan 2x4 steel tubing and replaced with early model A crossmember, reason: to lower rear-end a few more inche's by raising spring mounting point, and it look's better than a plain block of steel. After welding began

After a bit of grinding and metal finishing

Another Angle

Off to the other side

Finished product, then it's to the underside for some more welding and a few gusset's

I think I'm gonna call my broker and invest in cut-off wheel's and grinding disc's.......
