I would have shot him

Post by RebStew on February 12th 2011, 10:59 am

This one is a hard one for me. No secret that I carry. This guy was speeding and was unaware that the police were chasing him. He ended up getting in huge trouble over posting this video to You Tube beside the traffic citation.
Here the issue I have. Did the cop do the right thing? All of us has done a hi speed run. I'm not saying it's right but we have all done it. Even if it's just for a few minutes on the open road with no one around. I'm not saying it's right but I would ride my bike late at night and find an old road a beat the eye balls out of it some times. I know it wasn't the right thing to do but it happened.
The guy in the video was more than likely flying. A lot faster than I ever did from the looks of the bike. He came off the highway and stopped at a red light. He didn't try to run because he didn't know anyone was chasing him. The a daily driver car, not a cop car cuts you off and a guy jumps out with a gun. You can see the guy pushing the bike back trying to get away but the cop has a gun and starts yelling. Problem is he's not in a cop car. He's not in uniform. He doesn't have a badge showing and he doesn't say that he's a state trooper untill a few seconds later.
Noone knows for sure what they would do but if I was in my car or on a bike and someone cut me off and jumped out with a gun in his hand yelling at me to get off the bike or out of my car I would return fire. He my shoot me with his gun out but I feel I'd get a few rounds off.
So if I lived would I go to jail? I didn't know this was a cop. It could have been a car or bike jacking or some mad man wanting to shoot me. I know that I care if I live or die and in that video I would have feared for my life so I would have pulled and shot. What would you have done?

Some say it would happen to fast. Maybe I look for thing like that but when I watched this video the first time I seen him reaching for a sidearm before he was even all the way out of the car. It seems like it happend fast but watch the video a few times. That is more than enough time to draw and put 3 in his chest.

You know I give the cop a little too much credit. I thought maybe they was chasing him and he was moving on so fast he never seen them. Maybe 160+ MPH for a 10 miles or so. Here is the whole video. You can see he pops a wheelie and opens it up for a few seconds. Then slows down to the speed limit. He gets next to the off duty cop at 225 on that video. He doesn't know he's a cop and opens it up a little after he's in front of him. Again I want to stress that he should not have been driving like that but to jump out of a car with gun drawn for a speeding ticket?

Once some people have a badge, they think they're superman. I know a guy who had a trans am about 4-5 years ago. He decided to do a single donut in the big parking lot of a shopping center at night where they are very few people. Once he did the one donut a guy ran over to the car, grabbed him and yanked him out of the car. Turned out to be a city cop in his regular clothes and car.

Well, people in every city in the US need to get involved and begin looking at police budgets and staffing. Anyone beleive that if you cut the number of local police in half that criminal activity would double or even go up at all? If most of them were confronted by a real criminal they'd run & hide.

What these a**hats forget is that they work for us and we ultimately control the purse strings. They just haven't been reminded of that lately. Police budgets and growth have been off limits for far too long.

I went to You Tube and watched the News video above. I usually don't reply yo people but one guy on there just got me fired up. You could tell he was a over zealous cop that seen nothing wrong with this cops actions. Wonder if I'm a marked person now?
