My Cincinnati Barn Find 1960 Studebaker Regal Lark!

Post by falconwagon62 on October 24th 2009, 12:02 am

was just telling my sweet honey, that I have never found a real "Barn" garage find....till today....I read a CL ad;

Date: 2009-10-21, 2:51PM EDT

1962 Studebaker Lark been in the garage for 20 years. Tires are flat and interior has decayed. This is a fixer upper. Frame is in good condition and parts are still on vehicle. Will need to be towed if your interested.
Must be sold and off the property by tomorrow.

She emailed me, said it was a 2 door hardtop....but no picture, I emailed back when can I see it and where....she called me while making calls in the area, (outside salesman), so we agreed to meet in 45 minutes, this is what I saw when I got there....

259 V8
PS
Auto
100% bone stock missing only a front wheel and hub cap

Needless to say I did buy it, went back an hour later, and without question, was the hardest one I EVER picked up, The driveway was up hill, small yard, and cars parked on either side of the driveway, in a city setting......

So what should I do with it????

Motor NOT locked up, and complete....Thought about letting a true Studebaker fan buy it from me, Clear Ohio title and all, or trade it for something I do want, ie; 1955 Chev sedan

I came back home and got my SuperCrew and my 18' dovetail and headed back with my Honey in tow...she loves finding old cars!!! I love that Gal....Vicki Nova

We got there and it took 10 minutes just to drive up the driveway, Hyde Park is one of the Upward Huppie, DINK (daul income no kids) area's in Cincinnati, cars were parked on either sides of the narrow street, I had to pull in the driveway across the street, then back the rig in, Tom, my step son had to move a big rock out of the way, and drive in an SUPER NICE old guys yard to make the turn, started to back up the driveway and BAM...a broken peice of the driveway caught up the trailer and stopped my truck dead...took 2 trys scrapping in the high spot all 3 time, driveway over grown on both side and trailer barley fit, got it loaded, and the exit ways as fun as getting in...A guy in a KIA, pulled right up to my truck as I was pulling out, it took me 3 times backing up to get clearance so I didn't hit a Pontiac Matrix while making the turn out of the driveway, and he was hot, I was blocking his way, keep in mind I am trying not to hit anything he refused to pull to one side so I could get by, he wanted me to back all the way up the driveway:p:p Sure, so I shut the truck off, and got out of the truck, and started looking at the Lark.... Vicki Nova saw I was getting a little vocal, and came over and talked the KIA dude into moving over so I could get by, My idea was to drive overtop, or push it with my non-bail out Ford...she didn't agree...so we made it home, I've cleaned it up and I will have it running, if it will, over the weekend....

What I saw when I went the 1st time....

That thing looks pretty cool. It needs one of those Avanti supercharged 289 hp 289 cid Stude motors. There's a post one of those in the area that is really clean. It's tan with a 350/350 I think. Ed Crowder had it last summer down in Bowling Green. Man, that's a good find. Specially for someone who doesn't have a car to play with?????????

Note: the sending unit should be here late next week.

Hey there John.....I just manged to paint two rims. I had to finish up in the dark. I'll bet that'll look good. Gotta let'um dry before I shop for tires. Still no sending unit but I can feel it. I've been thinking I may have to put a Flowmaster on that old thing next summer. I got some extra spark plugs and some old Model-T coils laying around.........

Oh yeah, I heard that Lark run the other afternoon. It sure sounds sweet. Be a real shame to tear that one up. I do think it'd look pretty cool with those Cragars you have. Did ya win your auctions?

Yea..S/S would looks good...I am thinking those red rims with Dodge Police car poverty caps, maybe skinny ribbed trim rings....

the ol' 259 sounding better and better, need to change the oil/plugs and get those brakes fixed, and maybe valve cover gaskets, adjust the valves while they are off...Solid Lift Motor...

Yes I won the Tail light lens for the Sudeie....

2 words "FLINTSTONE FLYER" or sell it to me I need a daily driver.. I know where there is a garage full of old 30's NASH products that have not seen the light of day in about 20 plus years and the house that is in front of the garage is behind is abandon (typical crack house in and area not far from SINSINASTY), I hate ,kudos on saving it before it just rots to the ground.
