I like the picture above. Anyone other than me remember jumping on the air line to make the bell ding?

Yes. Gas stations I worked at as a teenager had them. There wasn't any self-serve gas then. Everyone got their windshield cleaned and the fluids checked if they wanted it.

I happen across the picture above and had never heard of them. The car looked like a 4 door that was shorted to a two door using the rear doors. After doing a little digging I found this stuff. Pretty cool.

Littlemac
Thompson Motor Corporation Muscatine, Iowa.
1929-1935
H. G. Thompson owner and founder of The Thompson Motor Corporation located at 708 East 4th Street in Muscatine, Iowa produced an American Automobile called the Littlemac in the late 1920s and early 1930s.

The Littlemac car was very similar to The American Austin built in Butler, PA from 1930-1935, followed by the American Bantam 1938-1941.

In addition Thompson built a small panel truck on the same Littlemac chassis and a two door sedan on a larger chassis. Shown below is an image of the Littlemac. Only a few units were known to have been produced between 1929 and 1935. They were hand built starting with a wooden body frame then covered with sheet metal. The wheelbase of the chassis was short just like the Bantam and most models were equipped with a Star Four cylinder engine.

The one in Cold Spring. Corner of 27 and Pooles Creek Rd.
That was a long time ago. I was asking a few people about the donuts but no one remembered. Right behind the counter where everyone could see it they had a big deep fryer full of oil. They made their own donuts. Choc/glaze. It smell great in there early in the morning. Only gas station I ever remember doing that. I was stuck outside in the little full service booth but I remember the smell of those donuts. Man those were good too. Now a days there is no way a station would do that. Seems like a lot of hassle but times wasn't as fast paced as they are now and that really wasn't that long ago.

It is ashame they messed with that station.....I couldn't believe it a few months back when I saw the canopy gone....that is/was an old Phillips 66 station.....they called them "Batwing" Stations. Google few of those keywords and you will find a few more intact in the country. There are a few still around in the Tri-State. I tried posting one from Mt.Healthy but it I must have done something wrong.....anyway, it is called Ken's 66.

RebStew wrote:this is a strange place. it's been open for as long as I can remember but no one with any common sence goes there. the guy that owns it is a nut case and you have to be a felon to work there I think. no one but goofballs and criminals have their cars work on there. the gas pumps are long gone and they use it for a???garage. he is always working on something but like I said no one in their right mind lets them wrench on their car. I have heard so many stories about the owner I couldn't recall them all. more people than I can recall have seen him take a roll of hundred dollar bills out of his pocket and roll one up, light it and then use the $100.00 to light his cigars. you can't jew him down on anything. it upsets him. if you need a winshield for a 68 Camaro and one is sitting there, you ask how much? he may say $75.00. you pull your money out, you only have $70.00. will you take $70.00 for it? YEAP!! walks over to the door grabs a bat and smashes the windshield. YEAP! now I'll take $70.00! this has happen with all kind of glass perfect body parts ect ect. he held his brother down and shot his own brother in the hand for stealing $20.00 . Mark Mittin is a guy that use to do repo work for me. Mark and one of this wrenchers had a falling out and the guy tried to beat Mark up. Mark took a swing, knocked the guy on the ground, jumped on top of him and started swinging. he heard a cricket and then something cold on his neck. it was the hammer sound and an end of the owners pistol on him. he let Mark go with a warning that next time he wouldn't even know what happened. so all in all this guy is a nut. if anyone wants to let him work on their ride he's across the street from Bobby Mackeys haunted country music bar. but that another story. this may sound a little crazy but everyone that lives around here knows this guy and can vouch for what I'm saying.

Hi my name is Terry and this is my first post.I worked at this station when was a Tresler Comet.I know a lot of history of it.It was built around 1968 as a Tresler Comet full service.I don't remember when it was but huge slab of concrete from up on the hill fell and went through the back of the building. Then in 1975 Tresler took over from the guy that was leasing it and and made it a self serve.I started working there in April of that year.It was a 24 hour station with 1 person per shift. They put a small building made of aluminum and plastic windows for us to work out of and rented garage. That was a high point in my street racing.Around midnight a large group of local street racers gather there 7 days a week.It was located on the edge of Newport and Wilder. The Newport cops never came there and the Wilder cops only work til 10 pm.Needless to say we had a blast.Sometimes we went out Route 9 to the Interstate 275 construction and raced. Those were the days.

Welcome to the forum. I live about 6 blocks away from there in Newport. I never knew the name of the old station. That's cool. The wall or walls up on the hill are still there. They had another fall about 3 months ago but it stayed up on the hill. There is still sections of it there. Do you have any idea what those walls are? Old retaining walls or left over from an old house? My wife and I talk about the walls behind there all the time. I'd be scared to work in the shop for fear of 10 tons of concrete crashing through the back wall.

We did a lot of street racing back then. From 1972 to 1974 we would hang out at Frisch's Big boy and when they closed we would move to the Big Chief Eating Post.We would fill up the back tables.Rosie the woman who ran the place at night was real good to us.Sometimes when it was busy,we would load up the dish washer to help her.Clarence Gravel who owned the place got mad at us,said we drove away customers. His customers late at night was drunks and whores. He got trespass warrants on us.About a year later it closed up,think he missed our business? When one of the guy got a job at the TC,he got me a job there.I worked second shift and he worked third, when I got off I went home got something to eat and went back for nightly fun.I lived in Wilder for 24 years in the white house on the hill next to the electric tower across the electric substation on Licking Pike.My two older brothers were founding members of the Impaladin Car Club.I miss the place as I live in Florida now.I make it back every 2 years.I sometimes think I should write a book as I have vivid memory of what happened back then.I belong to car club here its called The Deland Cruiser's.We have do rod repair at the Turkey Run in Daytona.Every year we help a lot rodders who's car has broken while attending

Impaladin Car Club? That's cool. I had a club member take me to the old club house behind Columbia St. The guy that owns the house now was standing in the back yard. I ask him about the old garage and the Impaladin's. He told me the Impaladin graffiti was still on the wall where they wrote the club name and some other stuff. After all these years no one painted over it. I was wanting some pics but he seemed to busy to mess with me. I was going to try again later but never got the chance.
