My two year project...

Post by Cratethis on March 29th 2009, 6:51 am

Yea, I know it's not a car, but I had to finish a project. I bought this bike two years ago. I had the frame chopped last spring and just didn't have the money to do anything with it. I got tired of not doing anything, or being able to because of the weather, so i rolled the bike in. I had been holding out on parts that wouldn't keep it from going down the road. So I changed my direction and decided to use what I had and change things out later if I wish.

And volla... I now have a bike that should be on the road by the end of next week.

It's a 1973 Honda cb750. One of the most chopped bikes in the 70's.
Here is a forum I'm on... http://hondachopper.com/

Here is a pic of a stock cb750

I did what they refer to as Konging the frame. My frame is a stock frame modified to drop the seat...

Yes, my rear fender is from a front fender to a Heritage Springer

And here is what I have done the last two weeks...

It may not be a Hardly Davidson but...

Well, it is legal and I've had it on the road. Still have some work to do on the syncing the carbs together to get it running just right, and I found a couple gaskets that need replaced. They leak a little but not much. Especally for a motor that is 36 years old!

You don't ask to ride someones scooter. That's like asking a biker for his girl. LOL

If you need any parts for your 750, I've got a 74 750 that I'm going to part out. That's a cool bike. You're doing it all the right way.....YOUR WAY!

Thanks,

I think I am pretty set on parts. Steve said you might be looking for parts for a 350. I do have a set of lower rear shocks that will lower the rear by 2". (11" over all). They are the eye to clevis. Let me know if you are interested.

Can you post a picture of the shocks, if you get a chance? I've had my bike since I was a sophmore in high school. I quit riding it in 1987 and it sat in garage 'till last year. It was built in the 70's with an extended front end, chrome square headlight, sissy bar, etc. I always wanted to lower the rear some, and it sounds like those shocks would be my answer. Thanks.

I bought this from Benjamin a while back but just now started screwing around with it. It had been siting for a while so bad gas and some minor things had to messed with.
This is pretty much how I got it other than I put the shocks on without springs in the picture to see how low it would go.

It needed a few stitches but I let my nurse fix me up and I went back to work. She's having a hard time healing though. I keep ripping it back open.

This is a low buck project so no fancy work with a hardtail frame.. I just sit it where I wanted it and fixed the swing arm. She not going to travel anymore. I still have some fab work to clean up the back but that will come soon.

The carbs were froze up and gunked up bad. I took them all apart and cleaned them up. They are still not perfect but it runs enough to pull me up the steep driveway. A little more good gas run through them, a little tweaking and they should be spot on.

The 4 into 1 pipes went up under the frame. That didn't work. It dragged going down the drive. Going into a turn was really fun. I ripped it off and cut them up. It still dragged when I went into a corner. I got tired of screwing with them and cut them up and made a set using just the first 3" off the engine. They are nice and tight against the bike now. Two shotgun pipes on both sides.

It took me some time to get the pipes right.

Anyone have any 6" over tubes for the front? I'd like to rake the neck.
